Columbia University Protests Begin

Students at Columbia University gather to protest the Vietnam War and the university’s racist policies, occupying several buildings on the campus. University officials call in officers from the New York City Police Department, who break up the demonstrations, beating and arresting hundreds of protesters. The protests continue into late May.
